Labia Majora Augmentation takes place in the Labia Majora, the skin areas on either sides of the vulva. They have hair-bearing skin over a fatty pad that is continuous with the Mons pubis. This is above the vagina. The procedure corrects the “deflation” that time has caused on the area.
As women grow older there is a continuous loss of fat from the Labia Majora. The quality of the skin also changes. Colour also varies from one woman to another. These changes and variations from person to person and over time are normal and they are expected. (They look like changes we see on the face).
All kinds of cosmetic surgeries, including Labia Majora Augmentation are about feeling comfortable and confident in your appearance. It is not about beauty or how other people view you. This is the great mistake in negative comments about cosmetic surgery and the cause of dissatisfaction with cosmetic surgery.
This applies even more so to Cosmetic Vaginal Surgery. For the majority of patients few people will see the result (especially to be able to compare with the preoperative appearance). It is something done for yourself – either for physical comfort or to be comfortable and confident in your appearance.

Dr Oates performs Labia Majora Augmentation at Academy Day Hospital under twilight sedation and local anaesthetic.
We have two main options for volume replacement – fat or cosmetic fillers.
Fat is great because it is natural and may be permanent. But it can be variable and much can disappear in some women. Also women who need the most fat replaced frequently are the ones who have the least fat available for transfer.
Dermal Fillers are used primarily. Yes they are temporary but they are readily available and make it a quick and simple procedure.
Labia Majora Augmentation can be combines with other cosmetic vaginal surgery such as Labia Minora Reduction, Labia Majora Reduction, Vaginal Rejuvination (tightening) or G-Spot Augmentation.
Approximately 7 – 14 days off work, depending on the amount of physical activity involved in your line of work.
You should expect some bruising and swelling which subsides in 5 – 10 days. Ice packs will help with the swelling.
You may experience mild to moderate discomfort. Discomfort can be managed with over the counter analgesics or as prescribed by Dr Oates and his team of doctors.
Your pre and post operative care is managed by our Registered Nurses. This will include pre operative assessment and post operative wound management.
Vaginal surgery is usually very safe and complications are rare, however there is a small risk of complications with any surgical procedure. These may include:

Your first step is an initial consultation with Dr Oates. You do not need a GPs referral for this consultation. Or you can have a complementary consultation with one of our Dermal Therapists or Nurses.
If Dr Oates decides that you are suitable candidate for labia majoraplasty and you want to go ahead with the surgery, a booking for the surgery and the pre-operative care is scheduled. The usual waiting period is approximately three to four weeks.
You may wish to speak with one of our qualified Dermal Therapists or Nurse prior to seeing Dr Oates. During this free consultation, a Dermal Therapist/Nurse can discuss both surgical and non-surgical options to treat your cosmetic concern(s).
